Case Study: Panther RC Tires
How it started
Panther Tires was once a respected name in the RC racing world, known for high-performance tires that kept hobbyists and pros on track. But after the founder’s illness and a change in ownership, the brand faded from the spotlight. When I came on board, Panther Tires needed a fresh identity to honor its roots while appealing to a new generation of enthusiasts.
Analysis
Despite being for toy cars, research revealed that Panther Tires’ core audience wasn’t kids but adult enthusiasts—many of them retirement age. Digging deeper, I looked at the broader landscape of RC racing culture, examining trends in high-performance hobbies, vintage brand loyalty, and how legacy brands successfully modernize without losing their roots. That’s when it clicked: Panther’s reputation as an older brand wasn’t a weakness—it was an asset. We could position Panther as a premium heritage brand. The challenge was blending that rugged heritage with a modern, refined look to appeal to both seasoned gearheads and younger fans.
